Fox Terrier
Nutritional Requirements

Fox TerrierThe Fox Terrier is one of the oldest of the Terrier breeds. Terriers in general were originally bred by crossing ancient Dachshunds, the English Hound and later the Fox Hound and the Beagle.

The Fox Terrier was bred and used in the 18th century to hunt foxes, by harassing the fox from the hole in order for hunters to give chase. They proved to be fearless and courageous by following foxes into any den or underground rocky passageway. They also proved to be excellent "ratters".

The Fox Terrier is a very alert, quick moving and agile dog that has boundless energy and is generally a very playful dog.

Fox Terriers are very happy but stubborn dogs that need to be trained early in order to keep the upper hand. They were bred to chase small game so if left outside they will eagerly chase squirrels rabbits etc. They also are great diggers, so a properly secured yard is a must or they can get out, never to return.

The native food sources for the Fox Terrier would have contained grain from England crops and meats from fox, and other small game that they hunted.

The recommended diet for the Fox terrier would contain beef, wheat, and yellow corn. Foods containing ocean fish, white rice and soy should be avoided.*

As for the Fox Terrier and most breeds of dogs it is highly recommended that a quality dog vitamin supplement be added as a regular part of their daily nutrition as dog foods alone cannot provide all of the vitamins, minerals and nutrition that your beloved Fox Terrier needs. A quality dog vitamin will aid in maintaining a healthy dog and thereby increasing their quality of life and longevity.
